The Longest Day ever lengthens. The 50th anniversary celebration of the first Normandy landing lasted is spread out over a year. On that terrible and triumphant day, June 6, 1944, 153,000 Allied troops and 70,000 Germans engaged in the start of a long campaign (the liberation of Caen alone cost the Allies 30,000 casualties).
