Preparing for adolescence
This is a worthwhile reprint of a classic. James Dobson is totally frank with the reader about everything he felt as an adolescent, consequently the text is relevant: children are not talked down to. The book prepares for the roller-coaster Feelings of adolescence, warns about the depression and inadequacy that seem to be so much a part of what happens (were you warned of this, you might not go down the route of self harm, anorexia etc.). He also explores the ideas behind many famous pop songs, and asks if the ideas behind them are really what leads to lasting happiness. As a well-known Christian author, he talks about sex frankly, in the context of marriage. This has been essential reading for 3 of my 4 children, (now aged between 12 & 24) my youngest has been reading and re-reading it for several months as she finds it helps her so much. Also good to read and discuss with your children – you will learn a lot too!
Despite it being written some years ago it is still really relevant. I would highly recommend this for all youngsters. (And parents to help understand their youngsters!
